When Hayden Winter came home from work late Tuesday night, he planned on going straight to bed after finishing dinner. But when he walked into his bedroom, he found a cat was in his bed. Winter recognized the cat as Fezgin, a local cat who lives happily on the streets in his neighborhood in Istanbul, Turkey.
“Istanbul is basically a city of cats and dogs,” Winter told The Dodo. “It’s really great — people just feed them and they’re part of the community.”
Fezgin was snuggled up in Winter’s bed, staring up at him as if he were an intruder. Winter checked his window and discovered that she had climbed through the window to break into his apartment.
This wasn’t the first time Fezgin’s sneaked into his home, but she usually doesn’t jump into his bed. So, Winter was surprised when, this time she decided to make herself comfortable in his bedroom.
“She’s a little mischievous,” Winter said. “She’s always playing around.”
Winter took some photos and shared them on Catspotting, a private group on Facebook, where the cat and her photos went viral and got lots of attention.
Fezgin didn’t stay that night, but Winter is thinking about allowing her to stay and sleep in his bedroom whenever she needs it during the cold winter.
Winter’s sure that if the cat needs the warmth, she’ll show up on her own. “She’ll be back, I’m sure,” Winter said. “Like all cats in Istanbul, she’s the boss.”
