Cats always want to show their appreciation and affection by bringing gifts for their owners. Cats hunt for preys like mice and birds and they are fond of sharing their hunt with their owners as gifts. This was a case with Baloo, a young cat with an owner named Ben. She started bringing in mice and birds from the backyard for her owner but she couldn’t quite understand why her owner Ben was rejecting her thoughtful gifts of live rodents and birds.
“She always looked so confused and sad which made me feel pretty bad. I can’t be mad at her for being a cat, and besides I’m pretty sure she thinks she’s doing good.”
Ben noted that Baloo seemed to know how to catch and carry her gifts gently because the critters were never injured. All the critters were released back, and that’s when Baloo realized that maybe a different type of gift would intrigue her human more. She quickly figured out that Ben has other tastes in gifts, and went out to hunt for something nicer, something less…alive and she decided to switch it up to big, and nice looking leaves. Ben woke up to his cat on his chest as usual, but instead of a live critter, it was a giant leaf. Each morning, she would bring him a new leaf.
More recently, following their move to a less hunt-friendly home, Baloo seems to have decided to choose a lazier cat type of lifestyle. She expresses her appreciation through plenty of snuggles. She comfort Ben when he sad, she sits on his chest purring like mad and nuzzling his face with her nose. Baloo finally figured out what her human liked and kept bringing him more.
