Tiger Gives Birth To Lifeless Twin Cub Only To Have Caretakers Astonished When Mother’s Instincts Kick In

Any birth is amazing, but the fact that this Sumatran tiger is an endangered species and giving birth to twins is something remarkable! This rarely seen birthing process was put on display recently when Kaitlyn the Sumatran tiger gave birth to two little male cubs.

Unfortunately, things got off to a rocky start with the first cub as it struggled to breathe when welcomed into the world. Thankfully, Kaitlyn’s motherly instincts kicked in, she acts like an old pro and begins licking the first cub immediately after he’s born. Licking stimulates the cub’s lungs, encouraging him to start breathing on his own. She doesn’t give up! The new mother vigorously cleans her newborn until he’s able to pull in a full breath of air. The next cub comes out kicking and much more noisy than his brother which is exciting to watch! She’s one proud mother!

“The birth of these two tiger cubs brings us hope for their long-term survival.” The critically endangered Sumatran tiger is one of the most beautiful animals in the world with heavy black stripes on a bright orange coat. There are less than 400 left in the world today. Poachers continue to kill them to sell their parts in Sumatra and in Asia, and their habitat is disappearing fast as humans encroach and develop the remaining land.

Now, an audience of thousands would witness one of the last of her kind, Caitlyn the Sumatran tiger, give birth to not one, but two precious cub twins. We’re so glad the team at Austrailia Zoo shared this heartwarming footage online for us to see. We can’t wait to watch them grow up!
