These Animals Escaped The Horror Of A Fur Farm And Now Live Their Best Lives At Sanctuaries

According to the Humane Society, more than 100 million animals are killed each year for their fur. Most fur sold globally is from farmed animals, such as mink, foxes, raccoon dogs, rabbits, and chinchillas. These animals had to spend their short and miserable lives in small wire-mesh battery cages, which resulted in numerous serious health problems. They are even killed inhumanely—by gassing, neck-breaking, electrocution, and sometimes skinning alive.

Thankfully, with the help of an animal rights organization, some of them manage to escape the horror of a fur farm. Instead of dying for “fashion,” these animals are living happily in sanctuaries where they can rest, play, and explore. And, of course, they are never going to be hurt again.

Below are 30 pictures of animals who escaped the horror of a fur farm, captured by Andrew Skowron, a photographer who looks for empathic shots that will awaken long-forgotten human compassion. For this reason, he often documents the lives of animals on factory farms and reveals the truth behind them.

Sometimes he gets a chance to photograph those rescued and happy ones as well. Through his photos, he wants to show what’s invisible to society – the relationships between animals, their ability to feel, and the respect they deserve. If you love Skowron’s work, you can follow him on Instagram or his website.
