Rescuers Find Abandoned Dog Nursing A Kitten In Ravine

On a spring day in 2013, Animal Control Officer Michelle Smith was called to a neighborhood near the Home Depot in Anderson, South Carolina, because of a dog barking. But when she arrived at the scene, she was surprised by what she found. She discovered a small dog nursing an abandoned kitten by the side of a creek.

Rescuers think that the dog was out exploring when she happened upon the kitten, who had no way to escape the treacherous surroundings. The dog stayed with the kitten, nursing her, and barked until help arrived. Neither of them had collars or tags, so they belonged to anyone nearby. They had obviously both been abandoned, and the tiny dog had adopted the kitten as her own.

Michelle brought the adorable pair to the Anderson County P.A.W.S., where they would be safe. The shelter named the dog Goldie and the kitten Kate after celebrity mother-daughter duo Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson.
But in the end, Goldie and Kate were adopted by a local man, Joe Harris, and his wife. They are now in their forever home, where they play all day and snuggle all night. Even though Kate is grown up now, they still have a close bond. They also never have to worry about being abandoned again.
