Our pets are our best friends and family members who provide us with loyal companionship and unconditional love. Besides, they bring all types of joy to our lives and serve as good anti-stress aids that make us happier and healthier. After everything that pets have done for us, they deserve to be loved and cared for by good owners.
Sadly, not everyone can care for their pets and give them what they need. That’s exactly what happened to one pet owner who was forced to abandon her dog for some personal reasons.
Meet Chewy, a 3-month-old Chihuahua who was found hurt and abandoned inside a Las Vegas airport restroom with a note. At first, the good woman who found him was angry, but then she read the note, she couldn’t hold her tears.
“Hi! I’m Chewy! My owner was in an abusive relationship and couldn’t afford me to get on the flight. She didn’t want to leave me with all her heart but she has NO other option. My ex-boyfriend kicked my dog when we were fighting and he has a big knot on his head. He probably needs a vet. I love Chewy sooo much — please love and take care of him.”
Luckily, the kind woman picked him up and took him to Connor and Millie’s Dog Rescue, where he was cared and raised.
“My heart dropped to my knees,” Lindia Gilliam, the founder of the shelter told The Dodo. “I didn’t hesitate to accept him and instructed my foster to immediately get him to an ER.”
“He was brought to the ER and given a once over, and he was found to have no serious injuries,” Darlene Blair, Admin Director for CMDR said. “The next day he was taken to our regular vet, Town Center Animal Hospital, and given a full nose to tail evaluation, a flu shot and a fecal test to make sure he was ok. He will be given all his shots, microchipped and neutering in the next few weeks.”
Linda hopes that Chewy’s story can help spread awareness about all of the widespread dangers of domestic violence or abuse.
“This is a very overlooked issue as a whole,” Gilliam said. “We also wanted to try and get the message to Chewy’s mom that she did a brave thing and that he is safe and will have a great life.”
After everything happened, Chewy the Chihuahua finally found his forever home with a new owner. We hope that Chewy and his brave mom will have a bright future. And who knows – maybe one day, they will be reunited again.
