Mother Dog Digs A Den In The Snow To Survive And Protect Her Puppies

A concerned family spotted a mother dog and her six puppies in the snow near Red Lake in the US state of Minnesota. In such harsh conditions, the mama was doing the best she could to survive and protect her little family. With nowhere else to go, she dug a den in the snow and wrapped her body around her puppies to keep them warm.

The family rushed them to Red Lake Rosie’s Rescue because they desperately needed shelter and food. The mom had stopped producing milk, so her 3-week-old babies were so hungry and cold.

Rescuers couldn’t believe the mama dog’s amazing story, so they decided to name her Snowbelle. “We have no idea how Snowbelle and her puppies survived,” the shelter wrote on Facebook.

Thankfully, it didn’t take long to nurse the poor dogs back to health. “After a few days of warm shelter and good food Snowbelle started producing lots of milk for her babies,” posted the rescue.

The puppies have grown quickly, and all but two have been adopted into loving homes. Snowbelle, now known as Asha, and two of her puppies are currently living at Pet Projects, a rescue in Nerstrand, Minnesota. They are looking for families that are willing to train and love them.

“We don’t really know anything about her past,” Nancy Bruley, founder of Pet Projects, told The Dodo. “She was very, very thin and in tough shape, so she had been scrounging on her own for a while.”

In just six weeks, Asha has completely transformed and felt so much better. “She’s really blossomed,” Bruley said. “She walks well on the leash now and is much more confident. She jumps and puts her paws up on me. She’s definitely more outgoing than when she came in.”

Although mother dogs are less likely to be adopted than their babies, Bruley hopes that Asha will find someone who will give her the home and love that she deserves.

After all, there’s no love like a mother’s love. Do you agree with us? Feel free to let us know your thoughts in comments below!
