This is the heartbreaking moment a bereft dog realizes her owner abandoned her and will never be coming back. They left her at a dog shelter.
Her name is Electra, a four-year-old pitbull who was left at the Inland Valley Humane Society in Pomona, California, and put up for adoption. Footage shows the distraught animal staring blankly into the camera, ears down, face contorted with sadness. It’s enough to make anyone feel sad. The look on her face as she realizes that her owners aren’t coming back is pretty hard to deal with.
The four-year-old has become a symbol for dogs who are abandoned at animal shelters all over the world. Electra’s tragic facial expressions have gone viral after the clip was shared on Facebook by animal activist Lolys Menchaka.
This story does have a happy ending. Tan had rushed to Electra’s pound when she heard her story—and later helped her get adopted by a single mom and her 16-year-old daughter.
