A Reddit user named BluecollarClassicist posted a heartwarming photo of a boy walking with a deer in his suburban Chicago neighborhood. The deer lost her eyesight, so she was struggling to find food. Thankfully, she finds the perfect friend in a 10-year-old boy who helps keep her alive by walking her to food.
According to residents of an apartment building in Illinois, the little boy began helping the deer every day before school. He would walk with the deer and guide her between grass patches to make sure she got enough food to eat. The boy was so gentle and sweet that the deer quickly learned to trust him.
After Bluecollarclassicists shared their photo on the Internet, the photos quickly went viral, and everyone was amazed by the kindness the boy showed the deer. Because the deer needed more help, Bluecollarclassicist called a local rescue group to see if they could step in to help the deer.
Fortunately, he had contacted a nearby wildlife rescue, where they’d be able to look after her and keep her safe. “The deer is getting picked up today by a local animal rescue group (NOT animal control) and taken to a vet for assessment,” he wrote. “It will likely be tagged and taken to a controlled forest preserve, but they did say that since she seemed so docile, she might end up on an approved farm or petting zoo.”
Everybody in the neighborhood was touched by the boy’s act of kindness. “We are going to frame this photo for them and offer to take him to the local wildlife preserve whenever he wants to go.”
We were happy to learn how many good people in the community had been stepping in to help the poor animal, but the boy was by far the sweetest example. He is a true hero!
