This is a story of a dog named Gregory, Schenley Hutson Kirk and her husband. Krik saw all pictures on the euthanasia list at Franklin County Shelter and Adoption Center in Ohio she spotted a gorgeous dog called Gregory. She thought she had to do something.
This beagle had been found as a stray in Obetz, Ohio. Most likely he’d been abandoned by his owners. Thankfully, he appeared to be in perfect health apart from one problem. During his health and behavior assessment, his heartworm test came up positive. Though Gregory was full of life and extremely friendly, his medical condition was a problem (the treatment of which would cost $400). Because of this, Gregory was listed as “rescue only” on their page. If Gregory wasn’t rescued by May 3rd, he would be died.
Luckily for this beagle, Kirk and her husband Joe are the founders of Hound Rescue and Sanctuary. They rescued this beagle and they never thought that the dog would fully understand what’s going on or thank them but they were wrong. When Kirk received Joe’s photos, she couldn’t believe what she saw. She said that “Joe sent me three photos, and in the last one, little Gregory had leaned his head over, as if to say, ‘You saved my life. I knew I was going to die at that shelter, but you saved me today,’” Kirk said. “And just the look in his eyes — the thankfulness, the appreciation and the love of this little dog — it’s as if he knows his life has been saved.”
Gregory is finishing his month-long antibiotics treatment and beginning his heartworm medicine. “He’s very laid-back, very happy-go-lucky, and his favorite thing to do is get lots of love from his people,” Kirk added.
Joe and Kirk know the true love with Gregory. They’re just waiting for that special person to give him a forever home. Would you adopt a dog like Gregory? Let us know what you thought in the comment section below.
