Cat With Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome Finally Finds His Forever Home With His Best Friend

Meet Toby, a six-year-old short-haired cat with a rare condition, and his best friend, Quinton, a 7-year-old black and white cat, who has lost all his teeth. Toby and Quinton were at the RSPA in England, waiting for someone who loved them and adopted them.

Toby the cat was diagnosed with feline cutaneous asthenia (FCA), a condition that can cause animals to have stretchy, loose, and fragile skin due to a lack of collagen in the body. It is also known as Ehlers–Danlos syndrome in humans.

Thankfully, a couple Georgina and Christopher saw Toby and Quinton on the RSPCA website while browsing the web and fell in love with them immediately. Therefore, they decided to give them their forever home.

“We’d never heard of EDS before we found him, we just knew that he needed a loving home and we have so much love to give,” Georgina said.

It didn’t take long for Toby and Quinton to settle into their new home. And seven months later, both of the cats are doing perfectly fine. Despite his health conditions, Toby loves grooming and playing with Quinton. “He loves belly rubs and will plop himself next to you and look at you, waiting for you to rub his belly.”

“Toby and Quinton are inseparable, and Quinton tries to clean up Toby’s face when possible, and when they play, Quinton knows to keep his claws retracted,” says Georgina.

Georgina hopes that Toby’s story will encourage more people to help special needs animals. Despite whatever it is that may make them “special needs”, they are still adorable animals with their wonderful personalities and the ability to love you back.
