Hungry Rat Broke Into An ATM, Ate Nearly $20.000 And Died

Well, today I have a story from India for you. This is the story of an ATM with a very special guest: a rat. This incident happened in the town of Tinsukia, Assam, in north-east India, as reported by the Hindustan Times.

The rat was found in the ATM when bank technicians were gathered to investigate why the machine had not been working for days. When the technicians opened the kiosk, they were shocked to see a dead rat and shredded Indian rupee notes.

Reports estimate the destroyed banknotes at between 1.2 and 1.3 million rupees ($17,662 to $19,000). “The bank officials came to check the ATM last week and found a dead rat and shredded banknotes when it was opened,” the district police superintendent, Mugdhajyoti Dev Mahanta, said.

After reviewing security cameras, investigators found no footage of a rat entering the machine, and they deemed that no foul play was suspected. “We’ve checked, and there is no other criminal or conspiracy angle to the incident. It looks like the rats entered the machine through a small opening for some wires.”
