Meet Matilda, The Cat With The Alien Eyes

Meet Matilda, an ordinary Tabby cat—except for the fact that she has strange eyes that are out of this world. The feline with very large, glassy eyes has been dubbed an ‘alien cat’, but she didn’t always have her alien-like eyes, it turns out.

Matilda was born on Valentine’s Day in 2013, in a hoarder house in a small town. She was discovered and saved by a rescue society, and 12 weeks later she was adopted by a loving family. Matilda was born with seemingly normal eyes, but as she grew older and bigger, she started having one squinty eye from time to time. So, the owners took Matilda to a veterinary ophthalmologist. The doctor discovered that Matilda had a condition called’ lens luxation’. Since she had a collagen deficiency, she would have a hard time healing from injuries and surgery.

The family decided to simply monitor it because they wanted to avoid traumatic surgery at all costs and, for a while, she took eye drops to relieve any pain and treat. She also gets regular checkups to monitor any changes or signs that she’s uncomfortable (the pressure levels in her eyes remain normal). She is nearly blind, but she can still see light and motion.

The cosmic kitty has garnered a lot of attention on Instagram, with 159,000 followers, where her human companions share photos and videos of the special feline. In March 2016, it was finally time for Matilda’s eyes to be removed completely. The big eyes that made her so beloved and famous had begun working against her. Though Matilda can no longer see, she continues to be happy and loved unconditionally by her parents and canine brother.

Meet Matilda in the video and pictures below, and please share this amazing cat with your friends.
